Madurai, Trichy see EV adoption accelerate amid fuel cost concerns

Electric vehicle adoption is accelerating in Tamil Nadu’s tier-II cities, with Madurai and Trichy together adding around 33 EVs daily in 2026, up from about 20 a day last year. Official data show EV registrations in both cities have surged in the first half of the year, driven by rising fuel costs, concerns over potential fuel price hikes, government incentives, and improvements in charging technology.
